TED Talk: The Healing Power Of Reading

This TED Talk was so moving in so many ways. Michelle Kuo takes us on a journey, telling us of her teaching career and the path it has taken. She tells us most importantly of her student that she met while teaching in Mississippi named Patrick. Patrick was a struggling student that Michelle had taken under her wing but when she had left to get a law degree, she was heartbroken to find that Patrick had landed himself in prison after murdering someone in a fight. She immediately went to him and tried to help him through this tough time. What brought them closer and what led to Patrick finally being able to express himself was reading together. Michelle would bring tons of books and poetry for them to read together and in return Patrick flourished as a person. Michelle definitely shows us in this video what the healing power of reading can do.
